Electrodes play an indispensable role in resistance welding. To make the welding more effective, it is also very important to choose the right electrode. When choosing electrodes, there are the following three points need to be noted:
It has a conductive function, conducting welding current to the workpiece.
In addition to the electric force, the following points should be considered in the welding process:
l Power and heat transfer performance.
l The resistance of the electrode itself.
l The Resistance of the contact surface between the electrode and workpiece.
It can transfer the appropriate pressure or electrical force to the workpiece to achieve the desired welding effect.
l Have mechanical property.
l To bind the melted workpiece together.
l Concentrate welding current so that it is controlled in the desired area (weld core requirement).
It can export the thermal energy generated in the welding spot (cooling the welding spot)
l It has thermal conductivity.
l The electrode must conduct heat or cool better than the workpieces.
l Only when the electrode has high thermal conductivity, can the heat inside the workpiece be quickly exported by the electrode through the contact surface with the electrode, to achieve the cooling effect.
l All are made of high-strength cemented carbide
l Retain the original internal composition of raw materials.
l Rapid molding process
l Ideal production efficiency
l Unique cold forging processing (plasticity)
l Conductivity
l Hardness (hardness at high temperature)
l Anti-adhesion ability
Materials of electrode

RWMA 2 (Class 2) | Copper, Chromium | 85% | 83B |
RWMA 2 (Class 2) | Copper, Chromium, Zirconium | 85% | 83B |
Glidcop(DSC) RWMA Class 20 AL-60 AL-25 | Dispersion Strengthened Copper (Nitrode) (Cupal) (1.1% Al2O3) (0.5% Al2O3) | 85% | 75B |
Except copper electrodes, there are many refractory faced resistance welding in use.
We have another article which specify more materials about resistance welding electrodes.
